charlie the chair

My name is Charlie and I'm a chair. To be precise, I'm a Petworth chair from Sofas & Stuff. I'm a brilliant shade of Rockall red. I guess you could call me a redhead, although my arms and back are the same bright shade.

My mother was a French chaise-lounge and my father was a beanbag. Luckily for me I got the best qualities of both. From my mum comes my impeccable sense of style and from my dad, a level of comfort that simply can't be beaten. Try me if you don't believe me.

My life sofa (so far... get it?) has been satisfying yet unadventurous. People sit on me, people get up again... you know how it is.

But all that is about to change now that I'm embarking on the journey of a lifetime and taking part in the Mongol Rally.

As the first ever chair to compete in the Mongol Rally I feel I owe it to chairkind to document my journey. I'm tweeting and blogging about my adventures as they unfold. Make sure you follow me to keep track of where in the world I am.

whats it all about

Each year teams compete in the Rally to raise money for charity by racing from London to Mongolia - a distance of around 10,000 miles. I'm joining team Band of Brothers, an intrepid foursome making the journey in a converted ambulance. Their chosen cause is children's leukemia charity Tildy's Trust. Sofas & Stuff are the team's main sponsor and it is thanks to them I am boldly going where no chair has gone before.

My mission? To give the team a comfy place to rest their weary behinds as they battle their way towards Mongolia. I'll also be extending the warm seat of friendship to anyone they encounter along the way. We're hoping that the offer of a nice cup of tea and an inviting spot to sit will help the team to bond with the people they meet.
