At our Woodchester sofa showroom, our team are always searching for fabric and textile inspiration. This week Pamela and Nadia decided to visit Design Week at Chelsea Harbour. The exhitibion is a fantastic place to get some inspiration and ideas to help them inspire and advise their customers.
We love visiting Design Week, it is an incredibly inspiring event. It is the place that different fabric houses launching their new collections and showcasing new and innovative ideas.
Trends at Design Week
It is a good place to discover what is trending in the world of fabric for 2019 and we believe that the strongest trends we are seeing are reworkings of traditional florals. With GP & J Baker, Colefax & Mulberry all delving deep into their archives to help inspire new collections and designs.
Ben Pentreath who designed the GP & J Baker Design Week Showroom had this to say about what inspired his design this year
“ When I was asked to design a room for GPJBaker my mind immediately raced to Magnolia – which for me is one of the firm’s most beautiful designs. What I find remarkable about it – designed in 1913 – is its extraordinary contemporary quality – vivid colours, bold patterns and beautiful natural shapes “
We believe that upholstery trimmings such as Houle work beautifully with this trend. These trimmings help to bring the designs back to a more elegant and almost regal look with a nod to Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler.
Lewis & Wood at Design Week
We have a very close working relationship with all of our showroom neighbours at Woodchester Mill. It was fantastic to see Lewis and Wood at the show. Their beautiful showroom was light and airy and was a beautiful celebration of their exquisite fabrics. Our customers have a long-standing love of using their fabrics on our furniture and we love the way they look. Lewis and Wood were launching their brand new fabric called Pomegranate. This is a design created by stylist and collector Totty Lowther. The design is based on a fragment of French 18th century Indienne block printed cotton. We believe this design is perfect for a dramatic wallpaper and a truly majestic print on heavy Scottish linen.
Another lovely collection of fabrics we enjoyed at the exhibition was from the incredible Timorous Beasties from Glasgow who exhibited some of their stunning designs such as Storm Blotch Velvet.
