Christmas is just around the corner and there's never been a
better time to spend some well-earned time on the sofa with your
nearest and dearest. So apart from wishing you a very happy
Christmas from everyone here at Sofas & Stuff, we thought we
would hand pick the best of Christmas telly for you to enjoy this
year - so you don't even have to pick up the TV guide this year.
After all, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without some of these
classics on the box.
There are some old favourites in there that we only ever seem to
watch at this time of year but also some welcome new arrivals for
you to enjoy…
The Jonathan Ross Show Christmas Special
(ITV1, 9pm, Friday, December 23)

We love a bit of Wossy here at Sofas & Stuff and we have a
feeling that his Christmas Special won't fail to disappoint. He has
a whole host of A List celebrities lined up on his sofa for this
festive special including Tom Cruise, the Crawley sisters from
Downton Abbey and the cast of the hit E4 show, The Inbetweeners.
All this washed down with a bit of musical magic from comedian Tim
Minchin who will be performing a Christmas song written especially
for the show.
Outnumbered Christmas Special
(BBC1, 9.20pm, Christmas Eve)

If you haven't seen Outnumbered before, then this Christmas
Special will be the perfect episode to cut your teeth on. This
improvised comedy is an absolute classic centred around a typical
English family - it's safe to say a lot of what goes on hits pretty
close to home if you have small children! Make sure you tune in to
catch up on the antics of long suffering parents Pete and Sue with
their three kids Karen, Ben and Sue as they decide to head to sun
for Christmas. A smooth ride is most definitely not on the
cards!
Downton Abbey
(ITV1, 9pm, Christmas Day)

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months,
you'll probably have heard the chatter surrounding the hit BBC
show, Downton Abbey - it's been quite the talk of the town
recently. And we very much hope this special episode serves
up the period drama, we've all come to expect and love from the
show. We don't want to give too much away but you can be sure to
catch up with the Crawley family for all their festive fun with a
good dose of drama thrown in for good measure.
Absolutely Fabulous
(BBC1, 10pm, Christmas Day)

If there ever was an excuse to crack open a bottle of wine, then
this is it - the triumphant return of Ab Fab complete with all the
original cast. We're being treated to two brand new episodes to
celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show (has it
really been that long?) and we can't wait to see what high jinx
Eddie and Patsy get up to this year. Plus you don't even have to
feel too sad when it's over, as a third episode is planned for the
new year.
Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow
(BBC1, 10.30pm, Christmas Day)

It's hard to believe that just a few years ago that Michael
McIntye was a relatively unknown stand up comic. A few arena tours
later, this has all changed and we can't wait to see what comedic
genius he serves up on a platter for this Christmas special. Expect
lots of brilliant festive observations from the man himself as well
as special guests Rob Brydon, Jack Dee, Miranda Hart and David
Mitchell. The perfect way to round off Christmas Day.
The Borrowers
(BBC1, 7.30pm, Boxing Day)

The Borrowers is the perfect family drama to slob out in front
of on Boxing Day while you digest a hearty lunch of turkey,
cranberry and stuffing sandwiches. Based on the classic children's
novel by Mary Norton, you can follow the adventures of The
Borrowers - a group of tiny people who live under the floorboards,
making use of discarded everyday items. The film has been remade
for the modern audience and features an all star cast, including
rising star Aisling Loftus, Sharon Horgan and Stephan Fry. This
promises to be a highlight of Christmas telly for both children and
adults alike.
The Holiday
(ITV1, 10.15pm, Friday, December 30)

There's nothing like a good rom-com at Christmas time and The
Holiday is the perfect festive flick. Starring Hollywood royalty
such as Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Jude Law, this
heart-warming film follows the journey of two heart broken women
who swap homes for the holiday season and end up finding love where
they'd least expect it. A feel good flick that even the harshest
cynic would find it hard to find fault with.
