The Perfect Friday Night In: Bonfire Night Special

04 November 2011

It's time for the next installment of our new series where we share our tips for a fabulous Friday night in. Seeing as it's the night before bonfire night we thought we'd share some amazing ideas for some indoor family fun before you head out into the cold for bonfires and fireworks on Saturday!

Something to Eat

pizza

Fireworks Pizzas

This recipe for homemade pizzas is quick and easy, and decorating the pizzas is something the whole family can get involved with. Once you've rolled out the base you can use brightly coloured toppings to make firework shapes. Try using red and yellow peppers cut into thin strips and arranged into catherine wheels.

Homemade Chocolate Sparklers

These are so simple to make - just grab some chocolate fingers, dip the ends in hot water and then roll in sprinkles. Leave them to set on some greaseproof paper and voila! Instant firework fun.

Something to Drink

romancandlecocktail

For the grown-ups, how about a Roman Candle cocktail? Mix four parts champagne with one part crème de cassis and add some dried cranberries into the glass. The bubbles from the champers will cause the cranberries to continually rise and fall. For kids you can get the same effect with lemonade and cranberry juice or a dash of blackcurrant squash.

Something to Do

pictionary-jenga

Board games can be a tough sell in a world of laptops and consoles. But they make for a fabulous family activity - it might take some persuading but if you can get the kids on board with the idea they'll usually end up having a blast. A quick poll around the office revealed two clear winners - Pictionary and Jenga. Although if you've got any sore losers in the family you might end up with some fireworks of your own!

Something to Watch

vdvd

Once the kids are tucked up in bed how about renting V for Vendetta? The Guy Fawkes mask worn by protagonist V makes this a fitting film for the time of year, plus it's a totally engrossing watch. Set in a futuristic, fascist Great Britain, a young girl (Natalie Portman) is recruited by the V (Hugo Weaving) to battle against the state after he rescues her from the secret police. IMDB users (always a tough crowd) gave it a whopping 8.2 out of 10.

We also want to hear about your perfect Friday Night In. You can tweet us your ideas @SofasandStuff or leave us a comment on our Facebook page. We love hearing your suggestions, and we'll pick some of the best ones to feature on our blog. Stay safe and stay warm this weekend!
