Sofas and Stuff and Sightseeing in Tunbridge Wells

20 October 2011

Turn your trip to the showroom into a memorable day out

Great news for our readers who live in and around Kent, we've opened up a Sofas and Stuff showroom just for you. Based just outside of Tunbridge Wells on the A26, it's the county's new must-visit spot for anyone in need of a sofa, chair or some interior design inspiration.

We're addicted to great sofas (and stuff). However, we also understand that there are other things you might rather be doing with your day off than shopping for new furniture. Shocking, we know. So we thought we'd arm you with everything you need to turn your trip to the Sofas and Stuff Showroom into a great day out.

From the showroom you can be in the centre of Tunbridge Wells in less than 10 minutes by car (there's also a great golf course just down the road). The town itself is a picturesque spot with stacks to explore - the tourist information office in the Pantiles is a good place to start. The Pantiles are the oldest area of Tunbridge Wells, built around the spa that attracted people to the town during the Georgian period.

One of the top attractions in Tunbridge Wells is the Spa Valley Railway. The chance to ride a real steam train makes this an exciting day out if you've got young kids and the staff are all incredibly helpful and friendly. We recommend grabbing a cup of tea from the buffet car if you can.

If you're after something a little stronger visit on the 22nd or 23rd of October - they're holding a beer and cider festival!

There are plenty of great places to eat in the town too - we recommend The Ragged Trousers in the Pantiles. For a cosy pub atmosphere it's also worth checking out The Black Pig on Grove Hill Road, near to the train station.

You can also visit the spot where BBC's Pride and Prejudice was filmed - Groombridge Place. This house with 17th century gardens also has an 'Enchanted Forest' for you to explore - if you like walking this is a great spot for an amble.

Another great spot for walkers is Ashdown Forest. It has 2,500 acres to explore and inspired the Hundred Acre Wood in AA Milne's Winnie The Pooh stories.

If you fancy a night out check out this useful list of pubs and clubs in the town. And to help with your recovery the next day? Champneys Town & City Spar comes highly recommended.

If you've got a top tip for Tunbridge Wells to share please leave a comment. We'd especially like some shopping tips please! For more information you can visit their tourist information website.
